Bio Lab


Unique among libraries, ours is a fully functioning Life Science BioLab. The public can visit and perform simple experiments using the lab's equipment.  The BioLab is currently open during the two workshops held each month and appointment only. Check the Events page for schedule.

3D Printer Space


The 3D Printer Space is a volunteer-run maker space with two 5th generation Makerbot Replicator Desktop 3D printers.

Patrons can bring their own design for printing or use our computers to create simple designs. We ask that projects not take more than two hours to print. Subject to availability.

Computer Facilities

The library offers Basic Computing classes every Friday at 11am.
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout the building.
  • 24 internet computers with a 2-hour time limit.
  • All-in-one printer, scanner and photocopier.
  • Two dedicated computers for test prep/college apps.
  • Four 2-hour internet computers in the teen area.
  • Four 2-hour internet computers in the children’s area.
  • Four Early Learning computers in the children’s area.
  • One Workstation for the visually impaired.
  • Nine additional computers for catalog searches throughout the library.

Community Room


The main auditorium regularly hosts concerts, art exhibits, films and community meetings etc.

  • Seats 100 people.
  • Integrated projector and sound system connects to our DVD player to your laptop and a 7’ by 6’ screen. Adaptors may be required.
  • Cordless microphone is available.
  • Art gallery.
  • Grand Piano. A $125 'piano use fee' applies to all bookings using the piano.
  • Kitchen available.
  • Rental cost for room is $100 per hour. If food will be served, there is an additional $200 refundable cleaning deposit required. Non-profit groups may use the room for free on presentation of official 501(c)3 documentation.
  • Bookings are subject to availability and at the manager’s discretion.

Seminar Room


The Seminar Room regularly hosts yoga, club and association meetings.

  • Seats 50 people.
  • Two white boards.
  • Drop down screen for video display.
  • Rental cost is $50 per hour.

Memory Lab:

Start your Personal Archiving Project!

Do you have old home movies or photographs that you want to preserve? Want to learn how to take care of your physical and digital memories? The La Jolla/Riford Library's Memory Lab has the equipment and resources you need to digitize and archive your cherished memories! We provide step-by-step instructions to help you in your DIY archiving project. Formats accepted: VHS, VHS-C, DV, Audio Cassette, Floppy Disk, Photos, and Slides.
